TWO TEARS en francais!

LIVE REVIEW in PARIS from ROCK N ROLL MOTHERFUCKERS
Je me suis dit : à revoir. Les roadies interviennent sans tarder pour retirer leur matériel et préparer la scène pour la tête d'affiche.

The Two Tears - Enjoy Yourself
Recorded by Gar Wood

What would it take for Kerry Davis to write a "normal" song? You know, the ones that adhere strictly to verse-chorus-verse format with a minimum of tempo changes? The former member of the Red Aunts, the Barracudas and Beehives was raised on punk rock, but in her later years she has turned inwards for her new project. Enjoy Yourself may be the closest Davis comes to a traditional singer/songwriter album. "Wiggle Like a Worm" is a feather-lite tune with a strong melody and a casually shifting nature. On "Too Late," Davis lets loose with some wails that could be from one of Nico's more difficult albums. She returns in part to her punk roots on "To Love a Bargain" and "Morris the Code," the latter of which features the supremely intricate percussion of Miles Poindexter. Most of the later part of the album is towards the hard-edged side of the spectrum, which seems to fit Davis' anxious energy well. If Enjoy Yourself isn't quite a singer/songwriter album, maybe it's more of a Deerhoof album. Look, no one quite remembers when riot grrrls started listening to Fugazi and the Boredoms, it just fucking happened, alright? So at least for a little while, whenever you hear about the frontwoman of some nineties punk band starting a new project, you can be pretty sure of what it will sound like. That is, unless it sounds like Le Tigre. It's doubtful Davis owes much if anything to Deerhoof, but the childish vocals, ironic positivity, and even the sweet/nasty lyrical motifs are especially reminiscent of the San Francisco band's album Milk Man. That being said, there are far, far worse albums released recently that Enjoy Yourself could sound like. And, ultimately, Enjoy Yourself is an appropriately titled work. It is the sound of an artist not quite done with her creative journey, and taking chances with her music. If this is the alternative to the usual premature reunion of decade-old bands, then Davis is certainly doing good for herself. (Bent Rail Foundation)

The Two Tears "Les Deux Larmes" 7"
The latest from Profet Records, and probably my favorite so far. Two Tears is ex-Red Aunt Kerry Davis on guitar and vocals and a couple of French gentlemen on drums and second axe . On "One Black Glove" the guitar-swarm goo-goo-mucks it up with a brief yet Eur-appealing sprinkling of femme vox, and it's better than you think it is. Good and loud. "Oooo, I'm Blue" on Side B is the better of the two, since it has this huge fuzz-monster sound they must've used a tugboat to lug through the song, while the sharper guitar flits around with a second and more fulfilling helping of Davis' voluptuous voice. A noise burlesque of sorts, that implodes on itself at the end, and manages to be moody and dark and uplifting all at the same time. Very intriguing, much like that pretty brunette you made eye contact with on the train platform, who was gone by the time you worked up the stomach to approach her. Stats: 300 pressed, mine came with a Two Tears zine as well. Will yours?(RK) TERMINAL! BOREDOM
